Lupe Fiasco – Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)

For the record, when I first heard this track I thought that this was a great original release off his upcoming Food & Liquor 2 from Lupe Fiasco. However, he reuses the beat from the Pete Rock & CL Smooth track T.R.O.Y (They Reminisce Over You), a early 90’s hip-hop track written for the death of their close friend Trouble T. Roy of Heavy D & The Boyz, much to the dismay of producer Pete Rock. Check the sequence of his tweets from about 7 o’clock which voices his displeasure with the decision to reuse the beat which he says

“No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made outta anguish and pain. When it’s like that it should not be touched by no one!”

Gotta respect the original artist on this one although Lupe’s verses are straight fire, appropriate use of the beat or not. Sound off in the comments if you got an opinion on this one; we love coversation!
